DWQA QuestionsUnderstanding Family Planning: Religious Permissibility and Maternal Well-being
Dr. Asiya Staff asked 1 week ago
Is a wife considered sinful if she asks her husband to use condoms? My son is currently only 19 months old, and I find parenting very difficult. I want a longer gap between children. Since my mother is no longer here, I have very little support from my maternal home. My husband currently practices the 'pull-out' method, but I am still afraid (of getting pregnant). Now, my husband is not agreeing to use other methods and tells me that I will be committing a sin.

A wife can absolutely request her husband to use a condom; she can even insist on it if she is able to. Why is your husband saying it is sinful? It is absolutely not so. It is a different matter that men often do not want to leave their comfort zone. Using a condom is actually a very good thing; it protects married women from uterine infections. May Allah make things easy for you. Your son is only 19 months old—let him grow up first, and do make your husband use a condom.
