DWQA QuestionsThe Balance Between Religious (Deeni) and Secular (Dunyavi) Education in Islam
Dr. Asiya Staff asked 2 months ago
Ustazah! Is it obligatory (Fardh) to acquire both religious and secular education equally? For example, we enroll in academics (secular education) from Monday to Friday and study religious education in the extra time, such as on weekends.”

Is it obligatory (Fardh) to acquire religious and secular education equally? What do you mean by 'equal'? It doesn't make 2 plus 2. You should have asked about the importance. We should give priority to religious education. For instance, I recall that when we started memorizing the Quran (Hifz), school education was put on hold, and as soon as we started college, the Hifz was complete. Our children have the capacity to fulfill the important obligations of religion like Salah (Prayer), Hajj, and Zakat (where applicable). Hajj costs ten lakh, yet they buy cars, even second-hand ones, for 18-20 lakh. In these things, your reason for comparison is no longer valid. Allah Almighty has given very little time for acts of worship, and worldly tasks are already so many. Allah Almighty likes quality and steadfastness/persistence, even if the deed is small, it should be continuous (Mustaqil)."
