"Assalamu Alaykum. What is the ruling on reciting the Quran during one's menstrual period? Some say it's permissible, and others say it is not. The elders in the family say that the Quran should never be recited in a state of impurity like this, and that it has a negative effect on one's life (as a consequence). Similarly, they believe it's wrong to not cover one's head with a scarf during the call to prayer Azan or while reciting the Quran. I don't know what to do in such matters."

You have asked two questions: Regarding covering the head during the Adhān: In my opinion, you should take your at that time, listen to the , and reply to it out of respect though it is not a (a mandated prophetic practice). Regarding the state of menstruation: In the state of menstruation, you cannot touch the physical copy of the Quran, but you can recite from memory. Specifically, those who are memorizing the Qur'ān are given permission to recite.
