DWQA QuestionsThe Permissibility of Legal Adoption and Changing the Father’s Name
Dr. Asiya Staff asked 1 week ago
My brother does not have children. If he adopts a child from his sister, and on the B-Form (ID documents) or school records, the uncle's name is written in the 'Father's Name' column instead of the biological father's, would that be a sin? Please provide a detailed answer.

The father is absent, and they are taking a child from the sister? Putting the uncle's name in place of the biological father's on the B-Form is absolutely a sin—completely forbidden. The real father's name must be recorded. If they are adopting a girl, she will be a non-mahram [once she grows up]. Do one thing: why do people only adopt from relatives? Go for an abandoned or orphaned child instead. A very toxic atmosphere is created when you take a child from within the family. We don't move towards true virtue; we only fulfill our own needs. Ideally, we shouldn't adopt [from family], but if we do, it's by snatching a child from an aunt or uncle. This makes the biological mother long for her child, and you remain in constant stress yourself, wondering, 'Am I a good mother compared to the real one?' Why put yourself in such a trial? Adopt those who are truly without heirs. There are so many children in Tirah Valley; go there, do the research, and adopt one. Then, after some time, adopt another if Allah gives you the means. In Europe, people are doing far-off adoptions; we can do it too. This is a deed of true goodness. By raising such a child, you will leave behind a reward for generations and a noble legacy. So please, come to the real world.
