DWQA QuestionsBalancing My Career and Conscience: The Ethics of International Ad Campaigns
Dr. Asiya Staff asked 2 weeks ago
If I run Google Ads and a client asks me to promote a 'Halal' product—such as clothes, shoes, or beauty products—but the advertisement features a woman who is not wearing a hijab while promoting the product, will I be held sinful for running that ad? The product itself is permissible (Halal), but the woman in the ad is appearing without a hijab. My job is simply to make the ad go live. If the sin falls on me, isn't it the woman's own choice whether to wear a hijab or not? The product is Halal, and I am only the one running the ad. The client provides the video; I just have to execute it on Google and Facebook. Since international clients—such as Hindus or people of other faiths—generally do not observe the hijab and their videos mostly feature women, is it permissible to run ads for them as long as the product itself is Halal?

Marketing and advertising are truly dangerous fields. It is a reality that women are used to project almost every project. They create the ad, and you are simply required to make it live; you run the Google Ads. Even though you receive the video from the clients and your job is just to run it on Google and Facebook, and even though the product itself is Halal—what about the women who are dressed so immodestly? You should think about making your work 'Halal,' otherwise, you also become a part of promoting immodesty.
