Introduction
While we were all shedding tears over the atrocities against innocent Palestinians in Gaza following “October Seven,” and witnessing the violation of every human law, another tragic catastrophe was unfolding in another corner of the world — The South Sudan Crisis.
The very same game being played out in the Middle East, Lebanon, and Yemen was being enacted here — the only difference being that this tragedy occurred with such callousness and savagery that in many respects, it surpassed even the Palestinian crisis.
External Powers and Hidden Agendas
Surprisingly, the same players were involved — the United States and its Gulf allies such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The tragic aspect is that external powers are, this time, supporting the rebels because these rebels are the product of the Darfur issue, in which Christians were granted rights to secession “according to UN resolutions”.
But the reality is that the actual players in this arena are only two, and both are Muslims — on one side the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and on the other the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) — and it is Muslim blood that is being spilled.
The Forgotten War
This dreadful war in Sudan has been dubbed the “Forgotten War,” because media coverage is blocked, leaving the common people largely unaware of it.
Muslims of the subcontinent only have information about America, the UK, Europe, and Saudi Arabia; we rarely know the geographical or political realities of the rest of the Muslim Arab or African world.
The Facts
- Start Date: This war began on April 15, 2023, before Gaza.
- Combatants: Two groups — SAF and RSF — are fighting to seize control of the country and its resources (similar to PLO and Hamas).
- Displacement: More than 8 million people have been displaced.
- Malnutrition: The crisis is pushing malnutrition to world’s worst levels.
- Health System: The national health system is devastated.
Conclusion
The South Sudan conflict, though largely ignored in mainstream media, is a grave humanitarian crisis. Millions are suffering, and Muslim lives are being lost in a war that remains hidden from the world’s eyes. Awareness is the first step toward justice, humanitarian aid, and global accountability.
