DWQA QuestionsCategory: QuestionsNavigating Marital Conflict on Medical Care and Financial Responsibility in Islam
Dr. Asiya Staff asked 2 months ago
My husband is a student of deen and he is educated as well but He has this mentality of not using pharma and against doctors because of which many a times conflict arises between us because of situations like pregnancy etc. He wants for me to give birth at a midwife's home but I'm afraid of my health and baby's health too. Also we make use of technology for other things and facilities but he tries not to make me use it for health and medical reasons. Am i sinful for not listening to him? As the duty of husband is to provide the needs of wife according to himself? Plus he is not a person who saves much and I have to carry the expenses of childbirth myself, so am I sinful if i decide for myself which doctor to adopt? As it depends on my financial ability and not his?

Assalamu Alaikum You are pregnant, and your husband wants you to give birth with a midwife. You object, and he says that you are disobeying him and will be sinful. Absolutely not! As you are the one who has to give birth to the child, and you are the one who has to go through the pain and difficulties—even the expenses are on you—you must prioritize your and the baby's comfort. Whether you choose a water birth, a hospital birth, or a midwife. Do not discuss every single detail with your husband. Observe Diplomacy and Silence concerning women's matters.
